Chem Pro, Freemium app?
Chem Pro is an IOS app, accessible through iPads, iPhones, and iPods. Looking upon this app, I was really excited to find something that I could use regularly, for I am taking Honors Chemistry this year. In the description of the app I read that there were over 31 hours of tutorial videos, flashcards, and a molar mass calculator. I couldn't wait to download it and try it out!
It was too good to be true. It gives your free access to 10 tutorial videos and a periodic table, and that's it. You needed to pay $4.99 to access the rest of the product, and that's not all. Many people have complained that they needed to pay more than once to access all the material. Once to get access to the flashcards, another to the videos, etc... You are also unable to download these videos before or after paying. But don't worry, the end is not here. You can find all the videos on the app in better quality, and for free, online on websites such as Khan Academy. I will, most definitely, not be using this app for my Chemistry needs. 1.5/5 stars |
Powtoons, Pay to success?
Powtoons is an online presentation and slideshow creator. Although this website looked good at first sight, after further inspection, it seemed to prove me wrong. This website has a variety of options that you can use for free. You can essentially make the perfect powtoon you would like without even spending a penny. They give you plenty of templates, fonts, a couple of "tunes", and visuals to use. You are able to create an account on the website, and it will save your powtoons on there. What could possible be bad?
After taking a look into the pricing tab on the website, I was just looking into the amount of restrictions you have for not purchasing a pro or business account. You are not able to download your powtoon to your computer, an important feature. After hours of creating the perfect powtoon, fit with animations and music, they will drop the "you need to buy this to download" on your screen. You can upload your powtoon to youtube for free, but only at 480p. In order to upload it in HD quality, you need to purchase a better account. the list goes for a while. In conclusion, if you are using powtoons for a school project or just for fun, It's alright. I would rather use Google Slides or Microsoft Powerpoint just due to the fact that they don't restrict you on so many aspects. For any professional use, You wild spend $127 a month on powtoons, to get it relatively professional. Compared to Microsoft Powerpoint or Google Slides, Powtoons is inadequate and inefficient. 3/5 stars |
